Iraq as an evolving place
The idealism of creating a new liberal democracy in the Middle East "a brand new place" if you like.... is giving way to a more complex situation. Some expected this to happen.... others felt like the power of the US and the vision of its President would triumph in this necessary conflict.
In class, we talked about insurgency and territorial control as well.

i maintain that bush should have waited before ignoring the entire un and rushing into iraq... now even after pumping so much money into the war and causing so many fatalities, the situation has not been overly improved, esp for civilians. however, i also disagree with the idea of pulling troops as soon as possible. we've started this mess; we should stay to help establish another govt. but, like it was said in class, there are multiple powers vying for control over the country, and anti-american attacks have grown to- i think they said- about 500 a day from about 100 this time last year (foxnews- bill o'reilly's show, i don't like him but sometimes he makes a good point). so, what to do, what to do? i def do not think leaving the country to civil war is a good plan, but which group will we end up assisting to create a democratic system there? and how will we help them overcome terrorist attacks there? also, i think although we've started a war on terror, does anyone else feel like maybe we've made MORE people dislike us? or maybe that's just me.
